Understanding Your Bill

Why Winter Solar Production Can Be Half of Summer Output

Feb 24, 20262 min

Lower production in winter is usually a normal seasonal pattern, not a sign that the system failed.

SYSTEMBILLSMYTH-BUSTING

Many homeowners see winter bills rise and assume the solar system is broken. In most cases, the system is behaving exactly as expected.

Winter means shorter daylight hours, a lower sun angle, more cloud cover, and weaker overall irradiance. Even though cooler temperatures can help panel efficiency a little, reduced sunlight dominates the result.

That is why winter output can be dramatically lower than summer output. Seasonal production swings are a design reality, not automatically a service issue.
