When Building a New Home, Pre-Wire for Solar Early

Running solar conduit before drywall can save money, preserve aesthetics, and make later expansion much easier.

BUILDINGINSTALLATIONSYSTEM DESIGN

Many owners wait until the home is nearly finished before thinking about solar, but by then the easiest clean wire paths are gone.

For new construction, two paths are especially worth planning early: roof-to-ground conduit and the run between inverter location and main electrical panel.

It is also smart to leave extra pathway capacity for future expansion. A little planning during construction can prevent a lot of ugly conduit and extra labor later.
